How to invite visitors to wear gloves and a mask? By turning them into thieves...of stories! Villa Bernasconi's idea

The Villa Bernasconi Museum in Cernobbio, Lake Como, reopens to visitors June 1 and turns them into thieves...of stories!

How to enforce security measures that require the use of gloves and mask? By turning visitors into thieves ... of stories. This is the game adopted by the Villa Bernasconi Museum in Cernobbio, which will reopen to the public on Monday, June 1.

In fact, an ad hoc thief must break into the house wearing gloves so as not to leave fingerprints and move between rooms with his face covered by a mask, taking care not to cross the boundary strips: through a simple storytelling, compliance with hygiene and safety regulations thus becomes a game.

Reservations for the visit online, through www.villabernasconi.eu, aremandatory. Entry to the museum venue will be limited, to a maximum of eight people per hour. Also available is an app to download to one’s personal device.

Through September 20, 2020, the Villa is hosting the exhibition Narrative Flowers, which features works created by famous painters and illustrators at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Among the masterpieces on display is Alphonse Mucha’s large and rare lithograph on canvas Les fleurs, completed in 1894 for Home Decor, from the collection of the Arte Nova Foundation. Dialoguing with the work are three lithographs on paper, from a series of four, made in 1898 by Mucha depicting women with flowers: the carnation, iris and rose.

Also exhibited is a lithograph on paper by Paul Berthon, entitled Les bulles de neiges, influenced by Eugène Grasset in style. Completing the exhibition are four lithographs on paper by Elisabeth Sonrel from 1901 depicting water, field, mountain and greenhouse flowers.

Belonging to the Arte Nova Foundation collection is a 1920s walnut-root lectern inlaid with a stylized neoclassical figure of a woman, while the mahogany wood sitting room placed at the foot of the Villa’s grand staircase is by cabinetmaker Eugenio Quarti.

Hours: Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reservations required. The duration of the visit will be one hour. The ticket will entitle the visitor to a subsequent free visit with no time limit as soon as the emergency permits. It will be possible to purchase a Guest pass for one year valid until December 31, 2021 at the price of 10 euros instead of 15 euros.

Single ticket 5 euros. Free for under 14, over 75, Chernobyl residents.
