Leonardo's Last Supper tour will be revamped thanks to major donation

Thanks to a major donation, the visit route to the Cenacolo Vinciano will be renovated for a smoother and more complete experience. Work is scheduled to begin by June 30, 2025.

Thanks to a €800,000 donation from Investindustrial Foundation, it will be possible to start a radical transformation of the access route to the Cenacolo Vinciano, making the visiting experience much easier and more complete. This was announced by the regional director museums of Lombardy Emanuela Daffra.

The Investindustrial Foundation’s liberal contribution will be in addition to the funding of about one million euros guaranteed through the PNRR by the Ministry of Culture within “Measure 1 Cultural Heritage for the Next Generation,” “Investment 1.2 Removal of physical and cognitive barriers in museums, libraries and archives.”

The project The Last Supper Vinciano. New path for a sustainable museum, developed together with the Milan Polytechnic, requires a total investment of about 1.8 million euros for its implementation. The objective is to rationalize the flow of visits to the Cenacolo Vinciano, enhancing the garden and offering the possibility for visitors to complete the entire route without ever leaving the museum spaces. For this, without any interference with the historical structure, it is hypothesized that a new covered and air-conditioned environment will be attached to the Refectory, which will also guarantee larger spaces for activities that are sacrificed today, such as group reception, preparation for the visit, and educational workshops.

“The visit route that thanks to the joint financial contribution of PNRR and Investindustrial Foundation will be possible to concretize, will allow a better organization of flows, a more complete and pleasant visit to the Cenacle because it will be more fluid, further raising the levels of environmental safety necessary to protect the paintings of the Refectory,” the Director anticipated.

The Investindustrial Foundation’s intervention, made possible by the Bonomi family, represents both for the size of the disbursement and as an act of patronage a testimony to the Bonomi family’s social sensitivity that dates back to the figure of Anna Bonomi Bolchini, the first woman protagonist of finance, but also a woman who, in postwar Milan, created the Le Carline institute that took in more than sixty girls, providing for their complete care until they came of age.

“The Bonomi family’s attention to Milan and to social work has not waned, as this generous donation also confirms,” Emanuela Daffra notes. “I would add that today we are recounting the uncommon example - which it would be nice to multiply - of a private entity adding its contribution to PNRR funds to enable the complete achievement of a goal deemed important.”

“For a family with origins in Milan in the 19th century to participate in the continuous renewal of the city is an honor and a privilege, but it is above all a duty,” said Andrea Bonomi, founder of Investindustrial. “We hope to contribute to other similar projects in the future.”

The timeframe for implementation will be as set by the NRP. Work is scheduled to start by June 30, 2025, after the construction of the new thermal power plant while completion is expected no later than the end of the following year.
