Paestum, here's book sharing: it's the first state museum with a Little Free Library

Paestum becomes the first state museum to have a 'Little Free Library': book sharing kicks off in Campania museum.

Starting today, at the Paestum Archaeological Park it will be possible to pick up books for free by bringing one in exchange: it is the principle of the famous practice of book sharing, and the Paestum Archaeological Museum has just become the first state museum to join the Little Free Library project, a network of miniature bookstores spread around the world. All visitors have to do is approach the bookstore located near the entrance to the museum and borrow a book for free but, as they said, on one condition: replace the chosen book with another book. In fact, the motion that stands out on all Little Free Libraries is “Take a book. Return a book” (“take a book, leave another one”).

The Little Free Library project was born in 2009 from the idea of former teacher and entrepreneur Todd Bol (North St. Paul, Minnesota, 1956 - Hudson, Wisconsin, 2018), who that year installed a small wooden house in the backyard of his home in Hudson, Wisconsin, with the words “Free Books” on it.Since then, his project has been successful, expanded, and today there are more than 75,000 bookstores scattered in 88 different countries.

“The little free library,” explained Paestum Archaeological Park director Gabriel Zuchtriegel, “is another element that makes the museum a place we can go to every day and where we find a variety of offerings, from daily workshops and tours of the deposits to book presentations and exhibitions. And with the 13-euro, reduced 8-euro annual ticket, I think it’s something that everyone can afford: with the subscription you join the museum like a library or a gym, it becomes a community place.”

Also contributing to enriching the Paestum library with several volumes were the members of the Inner Wheel Club Paestum City of Roses, who in the coming months will carry out projects dedicated to reading involving local schools.
