Turin, new layout of the Dining Room at the Royal Palace: Odiot silverware on loan from the Quirinale

On loan from the Quirinale, Charles Nicolas Odiot's precious and exquisite silverware will be placed on the table of the Grand Dining Room of the Royal Palace of Turin from March 17, 2022, in a new arrangement.

Anew display for the grand Dining Room on the main floor of the Royal Palace of Turin will be on view from March 17, 2022, curated by Franco Gualano and Lorenza Santa. The environment of the Royal Museums was built in the first half of the 19th century at the behest of Charles Albert of Savoy-Carignano and later redesigned by Emilio Stramucci in neo-Baroque style.

Curated in collaboration with the Teatro Regio di Torino, the new display will show visitors the precious and refined silverware by Charles Nicolas Odiot commissioned by Charles Albert beginning in 1834 and increased over time to become one of the most important services, both in number of pieces and in integrity. Transferred by the Savoy family to the Quirinal residence in Rome, where it is still preserved, today the service counts 1,297 pieces and was identified thanks to the research conducted by Bertrand de Royere; the studies also made possible the discovery of the preparatory drawings, which were already in the archives of the famous Parisian maison and were subsequently alienated at various auctions.

On the table, set for twelve people, will be crystals from the collections of the Royal Palace along with the prestigious 164 Odiot silverware on temporary loan from the Quirinale: a large oval soup tureen, legume bowls, casseroles à entremets, sauce boats, oil cruets, salt and mustard bowls, mustard spoons, saucers, the cutlery for 12 people, oval serving dishes, cloches, trays, sugar bowls, coffee pots, milk jugs, teapots, and a fontaine à eau chaude with its stove.
