Uffizi DAD arrives in schools: free lessons to tell about Renaissance masterpieces

Go Schools-Coming to the Uffizi is the new project of the Uffizi Galleries that makes itself available to schools to enhance distance education.

The great classics of the Renaissance narrated in DAD by the Uffizi: this is the new project of the Education Department of the Florentine museum headquarters, entitled Forza scuole - Arrivano gli Uffizi. Free lessons aimed at primary and secondary schools to illustrate the most important works in the collections to students. A way to make themselves available to schools to enhance distance education, through the Google Meet platform.

Each meeting will last about 45 minutes and it is necessary to book at ga-uff.scuolagiovani@beniculturali.it, indicating in the email the complete data of the school and class, as well as the name, surname, telephone number and email of the referring teacher and two/three possible available dates with suggested approximate time for the start of the activity.

The initiative currently includes three formats.

The Prince’s Casket (for elementary school): The places and characters of the Medici family are recounted and fundamental concepts are introduced such as: collection, gift, inheritance, uniqueness of the work of art, respect and proper behavior at the museum. The museum is observed in its spaces and in relation to the city of Florence to introduce some of the masterpieces housed there.

The Palace of Wonders (for elementary school): A meeting to learn about the history of Palazzo Pitti, the collections and the three ruling families who lived there from the 16th to the 20th century. A “walk” through the treasures of the palace and its museums to the Boboli Gardens.

The Renaissance in the Masterpieces of the Uffizi (for secondary school): A journey to discover the masterpieces that make the Uffizi Gallery the “museum” par excellence of the Renaissance.

“This is already the second year in a row that school children cannot come to see our museums,” commented Uffizi Galleries Director Eike Schmidt. “So, also to help students and teachers, the Uffizi Galleries decided to bring their history and treasures into the virtual classrooms of distance education.”

“Our desire is to vary the routine of DAD with stimulating content, suitable for creating, in synergy with teachers, a path of ”integrated digital didactics“ that opens to the knowledge and practice of new non-formal learning modes to be developed both at the museum and also on digital platforms,” added the coordinator of the Uffizi Galleries Education Department Silvia Mascalchi.
