August bank holiday at state museums, archaeological parks and cultural sites: they will be open to the public

Visitors will be able to admire treasures of art, architecture and history, exploring both the most famous national museums and lesser-known cultural sites scattered throughout Italy. The places involved include renowned archaeological parks such as those of Pompeii and Herculaneum, but also abbeys such as Montecassino or Casamari, castles such as Miramare or Lerici Castle; as well as Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este, Palazzo Farnese in Caprarola, the Grotte di Catullo in Sirmione, the Certosa in Pavia, the Cenacolo Vinciano and many more. The opening of these places of culture will take place according to the usual visiting hours and access procedures established by each individual facility.



Please also note that advance reservations will be required for some sites. Booking and ticket purchase methods remain the usual ones, so it is advisable to check in advance on the official website of the Ministry of Culture or directly at the facilities concerned.

Unlike other special opening days, the August 15 one will not provide free access to museums and archaeological sites. Tickets will be charged according to the ordinary rates for each place, with possible reductions and free admission as established by current regulations.
