Discovery in Pompeii: balcony alley returns to light

New finds in Pompeii: in an area that had never been excavated so far, a series of buildings with three large balconies that remained almost unscathed by the rain of eruptive materials spewed out of Mount Vesuvius that sanctioned the city’s destruction, complete with wine amphorae tipped in a corner to dry in the sun, has been unearthed.

The discovery was announced toANSA by Archaeological Park Director Massimo Osanna, who calls it “an absolute rarity” for Pompeii, also anticipating that the houses with balconies will be reconstructed and included in an entirely new pathway that will reconnect the Nola Street with the Silver Wedding alley.

With such a discovery, nearly two thousand years after the eruption of 79 AD that buried things and people, Pompeii returns its true colors along with the exciting fruits of the new excavations, the first in recent times in a ’virgin’ area of the 66 hectares along which the Roman colony stretched.
