Maria Cristina Mariani Dameno, better known as Cini Boeri, a famous architect and design lady, among the leading figures ofItalian architecture, and mother of Renato Boeri, has passed away at the age of 96 in her Milan home.

After working for a short time in Giò Ponti’s studio, she began a long collaboration with Marco Zanuso, and from 1963 embarked on her own business dealing with civil architecture and industrial design.

His houses designed in Italy and abroad aimed very much at the functionality of space and the relationship between man and the environment. In the field of industrial design she worked on furniture elements and building components, and several of her creations are exhibited in international museums and exhibition venues. Among her most famous design creations are the Ghost armchair, the Strips and Serpentone sofa, and the Feltro chandelier, while among the architectures she has designed are the vacation home at the Gulf of Abbataggia (La Maddalena), the restoration of Palazzo Forti in Verona, and the Museum of the Treasure of the Cathedral of Monza.

In the course of her profession, she gave lectures and lessons at various universities and institutions in Italy and abroad and courses in “architectural design” and “industrial design and furniture” at the Milan Polytechnic.

In 1979 she won the Compasso d’oro, in 2011 she was awarded the Compasso d’oro for lifetime achievement, and last year she was awarded the Ambrogino d’oro in her native Milan.

Among her best-known publications are Le dimensioni umane dell’abitazione (1980), La dimensione del domestico (1988), Progettista e committente (1991), and in 2004 was published, edited by Cecilia Avogadro, Cini Boeri, architetto e designer.
