TheCentre Pompidou announced Wednesday, Feb. 11, that it had filed a complaint after the discovery in mid-January of an image-taking device installed in the women’s restrooms inside its administrative premises. As reported by the Le Figaro news outlet, the Parisian institution also disclosed that it had suspended the alleged perpetrator. The news was confirmed to Agence France-Presse by a spokeswoman for the contemporary art center, which is currently closed to the public for renovations, while the administrative buildings remain fully operational.
According to an internal message sent Tuesday by the management of the Centre Pompidou, also known as Beaubourg, to employees, the presence of the device had been reported Jan. 14 by an agent. The device appeared to be concealed in the women’s restrooms located in the premises housing the building and security department, in an area in Paris in close proximity to the museum complex. Following the report, extensive checks were initiated in all toilets in the building. The checks made it possible to rule out the presence of additional image capturing devices in the same premises, as specified in the internal communication circulated to workers.
