It's official: museums reopen on holidays, cinemas and theaters

Government approves dpcm with anti-Covid measures from March 6 to April 6, 2021. Museums on holidays, cinemas and theaters reopen from March 27.

Prime Minister Mario Draghi signed the dpcm a short while ago establishing measures to counter the pandemic and prevent Covid-19 infection during the period from March 6 to April 6, 2021. Among the confirmations are the ban on travel (until March 27) between different regions and autonomous provinces with the exception of travel for health, work or necessity, and the closure of culture in orange and red zones.

For culture, however, there is very important news. In fact, the dpcm stipulates that in yellow zone regions, museums will also reopen on holidays from next March 27. And also from March 27, cinemas and theaters will reopen, with pre-assigned seating and compliance with physical spacing regulations. The capacity of theaters will not exceed 25 percent of the maximum capacity, and there will be a cap of 400 spectators outdoors and 200 indoors. For indoor events, therefore, the same capacity as in the summer period, while for outdoor events drastic reduction (in the summer the ceiling was 1,000 outdoors).

“We are also able to give a signal to the world of culture, to the places of culture,” Mariastella Gelmini, minister for regional affairs and autonomies, said during the press conference presenting the dpcm: “from March 27 it will be possible, against a reservation that will take place only online, to return, we all hope, to attend the places of culture.”
