Appointed the new director of MASI Lugano - Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana: she is Letizia Ragaglia, currently director of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in Vaduz. After a careful selection process conducted with the support of a commission of independent experts, Letizia Ragaglia was chosen and will officially take over as director of MASI from spring 2026, when Tobia Bezzola will reach retirement age.
Born in 1969 in Montebelluna (Treviso), Letizia Ragaglia graduated in philosophical hermeneutics, later earning specializations in museology and contemporary art at the Universities of Bologna and Florence as well as at the École du Louvre and the Sorbonne in Paris. Since July 2021 he has directed the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, where he has curated solo exhibitions of Diamond Stingily, Mercedes Azpilicueta, Invernomuto, Nazgol Ansarinia, Liliana Moro, Bethan Huws and Georgia Sagri and where he introduced a focus on performance. She also co-curated a Candida Höfer exhibition in dialogue with the museum’s collections and those of the Hilti Art Foundation. The last exhibition she curated, the first retrospective of Romanian artist Ana Lupas, was in collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He is currently a member of the artistic committee of the Generali Foundation in Vienna at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg.
From 2009 to May 2020, Ragaglia directed the Museion in Bolzano, where he curated some 30 solo exhibitions, as well as numerous exhibitions of the museum’s collection. At Museion, he has collaborated with many international institutions, including the Lenbachhaus and the Goetz Collection in Munich, the Mumok, Sezession, Belvedere, and Sammlung Verbund in Vienna, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the New Museum in New York, the Serpentine Gallery in London, the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, the Museum Kurhaus Kleve, the Fridericianum in Kassel, the WIELS in Brussels, the Migros Museum in Zurich, the Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin, the Mart and the Galleria Civica in Trento and Rovereto, and the Madre in Naples.
During the same period she was a member of the KÖR jury of the city of Vienna (Kunst im Öffentlichen Raum / art in public space) from 2010 to 2013 and a member of the jury of the Venice Biennale in 2013. In 2016, she co-curated with Lu Peng the third biennial International Nanjing Festival “Historicode. Scarcity and Supply.”
