Maecenas donates more than 25 works from his extensive collection to the Emilia Romagna region

Bolognese patron Francesco Amante donates works of art from his collection to the Emilia Romagna Region and the Municipality of Pianoro.

Bologna-based entrepreneur and patron Francesco Amante has donated more than twenty-five works of art from his rich collection to the Emilia Romagna Region and the Municipality of Pianoro. Specifically, the Region was given seventeen works and two installations by Flavio Favelli, while the Municipality of Pianoro received eight artworks. The works donated by the collector thus go to enrich the regional artistic heritage.

“The Emilia Romagna Region,” said Culture and Landscape Councillor Mauro Felicori, “proposes itself as a ’pole of contemporary art’ with a total heritage of more than eight hundred works of art to be continually enriched, as institutions, businesses, and the most enlightened families do. Francesco Amante confirms himself as a patron. Now we have to make the collection more visible with temporary exhibitions and permanently in spaces open to the public in the offices of the Region or other public institutions.”

Also proud of the donation is the mayor of the Municipality of Pianoro Franca Filippini: “It will embellish our Pianoro Town Hall premises and our Family Center, the district headquarters of many important projects for the communities of our territory and neighboring municipalities.”

Established in 1973, the Amante collection currently has more than eight hundred works and, since 2005, the collection has been on display at the Villa Franceschi Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Riccione. In the Municipality of Pianoro, on the other hand, works can be admired inside the premises of the Town Hall, particularly in the Sala Giunta and in the new district headquarters of the Center for Families, located at the Cricket Birillo Playroom.

“Since I was a young entrepreneur, I understood that doing business also meant having a social commitment,” commented Francesco Amante. “A demanding professional life with many sacrifices, however, has allowed me to achieve important life goals; apart from social work, I have dedicated my commitment to the world of motors and art. In the latter discipline I have dedicated in my city some installations and donations. He continues: ”Pianoro for many years has been an area where I dedicate an important motorsport event, with which a relationship of attendance has been established. Recently, a former employee of mine, Flavia Calzà, was appointed alderman, and as a representative of the Municipal Administration, I proposed to her a donation of some of my works to be placed in schools. At the same time I was thinking about my Region, stimulated by the appointment of Mauro Felicori as Councillor for Culture, to whom I am bound by a close friendship and a strong esteem for the man and the work he does. I then proposed a donation to him as well, an idea he liked. Two important sculptures by Flavio Favelli will also be delivered, which will be displayed in institutional places in the region."

The donated works include paintings, sculptures and photographs. Artists whose works have been donated to the Region include Alessandro Aldrovandi, Karin Andersen, Flavio Favelli, Emil Lukas, Luigi Mainolfi, Boubacar Tourè Mandemory, Simon Morley, and Renner. As well as two installations by Flavio Favelli that will be exhibited in prestigious exhibition venues in the region. Instead, eight works by artists Brunello Baldi, Willie Bester, Davide Cascio, Gianni Castagnoli, Daniela Ciamarra, Paolo Danesi, and Mastronunzio will be given to the City of Pianoro.

All works of the Amante donation are catalogued and made available in the Catalogue of the Cultural Heritage of the Emilia-Romagna Region-PatER(http://udmc.it/ge2dgmrw).
