Michelangelo's Gaze presented in San Pietro in Vincoli

From October 6-10, 2017, the Basilica of St. Peter in Chains in Rome will present the recent digitization of the short film Lo Sguardo di Michelangelo.

From Friday, Oct. 6 to Tuesday, Oct. 10, during the visiting hours of the Basilica of St. Peter in Chains in Rome (8:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.), visitors will be able to see for the first time, free of charge, the short film that director Michelangelo Antonioni dedicated to one of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s masterpieces, the Tomb of Julius II.

The short film"Lo Sguardo di Michelangelo" was made in 2004 and that same year it was presented at Cannes: it was called by some critics the most beautiful thing of that Festival.

Ten years after Antonioni’s death, Istituto Luce Cinecittà and Il Gioco del Lotto present the recent digitization of “Lo Sguardo di Michelangelo”: the images have been scanned at very high resolution, stabilized and digitally cleaned, eliminating spikes, stripes and visible splice marks; a digital cleaning of the sound has also been accomplished.

The presentation of the short film in San Pietro in Vincoli is an initiative of the Special Superintendence of Rome.
