Milan is confirmed as a magnet for cultural consumption

From concerts to theater and dance to bookstore purchases: the city of Milan confirms itself as a major center of attraction for cultural consumption. Data from the Observatory for BookCity Milano on "Reading and Cultural Consumption in Milan," edited by the Italian Publishers Association (AIE).

The city of Milan is confirmed as a major hub for cultural consumption: from concerts to theater and dance to bookstore purchases. In fact, the Lombard capital concentrates 25.2 percent of national spending on attending opera performances, 15 percent on ballet performances, 10.6 percent on prose theater performances, 10 percent on book purchases in trade channels (physical and online bookstores and supermarkets), and 5.3 percent on movie tickets. These are just some of the data contained in the Observatory for BookCity Milano on “Reading and Cultural Consumption in Milan,” edited by the Italian Publishers Association (AIE), which, in its third edition, is enriched, thanks to the collaboration with SIAE, by the actual data, in terms of expenditure, of all cultural consumption in the area (reading but also art, theater, cinema, music, dance in the municipality of Milan).

“This project,” commented AIE President Innocenzo Cipolletta, “confirms our commitment to BookCity Milano, an event we collaborate with and have always believed in. Even more so this year it wants to provide the city with a useful tool, thanks to a real snapshot of what is moving in the city, for planning effective policies to support the cultural sector, whose weight on the city’s economy is of absolute importance.”

The Observatory will be presented at a preview event of BookCity, born from the collaboration between AIE, City of Milan-Culture Department, BookCity Milano, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in the Conference Room on the third floor of Palazzo Reale.
