Mitoraj's Daedalus forever in Pompeii

The statue depicting Daedalus created by Igor Mitoraj was donated to MiBACT and will remain in Pompeii forever.

Almost at the close of the exhibition that allowed visitors to walk through the Pompeii Excavations admiring thirty splendid statues created by Igor Mitoraj up close, the Mitoraj Foundation, the Contini Gallery, and Minister of Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini announced that the statue depicting Daedalus has been donated to MiBACT, so it will remain forever in the ruins of Pompeii.

Daedalus will forever be confronted with the Temple of Venus, visible even to those outside the excavations.

In addition, it has been announced that a museum will be dedicated to the sculptor in the city of Pietrasanta: the property has already been identified, and its restoration has already been funded by the state through the Great Projects of 2017. When the work is completed, the museum will house a very significant part of Mitoraj’s works.
