Naples, allocated 13 million euros for the restoration of the Maschio Angioino

The Ministry of Culture has allocated 13 million euros for conservative restoration work on the Maschio Angioino, among the most important monuments in Naples.

The Ministry of Culture, through the Directorate General for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape and the Directorate General for Museums, has allocated 13 million euros for conservative restoration work on the Maschio Angioino, one of Naples’ most important monuments.

Resources of 2.5 million euros, from PNRR funds, are earmarked for the removal of physical and cognitive barriers, 6 million euros for the restoration and consolidation of the Triumphal Arch celebrating the conquest of the Kingdom of Naples by Alfonso of Aragon. The other 4.5 million, from the EU funds of the Action and Cohesion Plan, will be used for safety, completion of architectural barriers and upgrading of the displays.

“It is important that the resources already allocated are spent immediately by the implementing agencies. I have given impetus to the offices so that they proceed with haste,” said Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano. “To these funds will be added others on the basis of a project that solves the problems of protection, conservation and enhancement of the Maschio Angioino.”
