Sangiuliano: A success for the Pantheon fee. Now a card for the elderly

Exults Minister Sangiuliano over figures from the first day of Pantheon fee: 6 thousand admissions for over 20 thousand euros in receipts. And announces the idea of a museum card aimed at the elderly.

Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano is beaming after the first day of Pantheon pay-as-you-go. He exults the owner of the Collegio Romano on the sidelines of his visit to Rome ’s Pantheon where, as of yesterday, there is fee-paying access at a cost of 5 euros (reduced to 3 for young people between 18 and 25). During the first day of paid access, the Pantheon totaled nearly 6,000 admissions for more than 20,000 euros in takings. To be precise, at the end of the first day there were 5792 tickets sold (3835 on site + 1957 via AD Arte platform, put online just at the time of the introduction of the Pantheon ticket) for a total takings of 21,381 euros (14,635 euros on site + 6746 via platform).

“The first day of paid admission to the Pantheon,” says the minister, “was a success beyond expectations. As of yesterday, the site in the heart of Rome is aligned with representative monuments around the world. This is an important result that we manage to achieve after only a few months in office. The proceeds will be divided between the Ministry, the Curia, which will allocate a part of it for the poor of Rome, and the Municipality, which will, however, have to commit itself to keeping the beautiful square in front of it in a decent and presentable condition. The part of the resources that will remain with us will be used for the monument: to keep it in order, for its protection and preservation, to open new spaces. Residents of Rome come in without paying. We will maintain for this site the extensive and generous system of free admission that Italy guarantees for everyone: from Sundays at the museum to the free ticket for children up to 18 and the reduced one for those under 25.”

The minister’s initiatives do not stop: the next novelty will be a card for the elderly, as he explained during his visit to the Pantheon: “In some large cities we are also thinking of a card for the elderly, with which, by paying a very reduced amount, they will be able to visit all museums.”

“My times,” Sangiuliano concludes, “are not those of the past: before, things were said for 20 years and then not implemented. For example, everyone hypothesized the Shoah Museum: we, in 8 months, brought its realization to the Council of Ministers. Within months of the St. Casciano find, we have already purchased the building that is to house the statues and become a permanent museum. And in 8 months we arrived at this result: the Pantheon is the most visited museum site in the nation, about 9 mln accesses a year.”
