The ancient village of Curon lives again in a video game about historical memory

Available on Steam "A Painter's Tale: Curon, 1950," the video game that brings to life the ancient village of Curon, in Trentino-Alto Adige.

The ancient village of Curon, the last vestige of which is the bell tower rising out of the waters of Lake Resia in Trentino-Alto Adige, and which attracts many tourists especially in winter when the lake freezes completely making the bell tower reachable on foot, comes to life in a video game.

A Painter’s Tale: Curon, 1950 was developed by Monkeys Tales Studio in collaboration with IVIPRO - Italian Videogame Program and is intended to be a game-tale about historical memory. In 1950, the village of Curon was submerged by the waters of the lake due to the construction of a dam, despite the citizens’ protests; therefore, the inhabitants were forced to abandon their homes and properties.

The protagonist of the video game is a painter visiting present-day Curon Venosta: a mysterious woman leads him to the lake and the famous bell tower, and he finds himself in the past, in the ancient village of Curon, just as it was before that tragic event in 1950. He also finds the villagers who witnessed that moment.

The ancient village has been reconstructed using the voxel technique from the scale model kept in the Upper Vinschgau Museum; oil paintings and charcoal drawings are also presented.

A Painter ’s Tale: Curon, 1950 is a story of love and endurance, an adventure game in which history and fiction overlap.
It is available on Steam in Italian, German and English for PC and Mac.
