Completed the restoration of the South Door of the Florence Baptistery made by Andrea Pisano. From December 9, 2019, it will be on view in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo.

The South Door of the Florence Baptistery built by Andrea Pisano in the 1430s has been restored by theOpificio delle Pietre Dure. The restoration was made possible thanks to funding from theOpera di Santa Maria del Fiore.

The Door will be on public view again from December 9, 2019 at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, where it will arrive on the night of Monday, November 4 to Tuesday, November 5. Two trips, one for each leaf, will be required for transportation, as the total weight of the door is about seven tons.

Once it arrives at the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence, the South Door will be transferred to the Hall of Paradise and will be mounted in a display case next to the Baptistery’s two other doors, the Gates of Paradise and Lorenzo Ghiberti’s North Door.

The museum will be closed to the public from Nov. 4 to Nov. 22 to make possible the assembly operations of the restored door.
