Venice's Peggy Guggenheim Collection launches online art history course

An online art history course, via Zoom: that's the proposal of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice for these weeks of museum closures.

Following the public’s enthusiasm for the Incontri series, with which the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice brought a series of art history lectures online for the first time in April, starting November 23 the museum is offering L’Arte è Vita, a new art history course, divided into two cycles of four lectures each on Zoom, reserved for museum members. With the desire to keep alive, even at a distance, the dialogue with its members, and with those who wish to join for the occasion, the museum intends to continue its educational mission by continuing to share content that is always of high quality. In addition, this is a way to support the Collection, now closed again, confident that we will be able to reopen the doors of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni as soon as possible. It will always be Alessandra Montalbetti (Pinacoteca di Brera), who has conceived and led the Guggenheim Art Classes and the Incontri series over the past six years, who will lead the lectures, which will take place live on Zoom, at 7 p.m., according to the schedule to follow.

The eight lectures in the Art is Life course will cover a wide range of centuries, and will be devoted to topics that have deep connections to art history, creating somewhat captivating dialogues that combine art with alchemy, advertising, food, music, literature, fashion, philosophy, and film. Proceeds from the course, in the form of a 50-euro tax-deductible donation per cycle, will go to support the museum. To thank members for their continued support and solidarity and to invite art enthusiasts to learn more about our Membership program, or to give the membership card as a gift, until December 31 it will be possible to renew or join at a 30 percent discount.

The first cycle will be held between November and December 2020, with the following program: Art and Alchemy (Nov. 23, 2020, 7 p.m.), Art and Advertising (Nov. 30, 2020, 7 p.m.), Art and Music (Dec. 14, 2020, 7 p.m.), and Art and Food (Dec. 21, 2020, 7 p.m.). The second cycle will be held between February and March 2021 and will focus on Art and Literature, Art and Fashion, Art and Philosophy, and Art and Film. Windows on Art is a media partner of the project.
