Rights become street art, from a happy childhood to stopping poverty and hunger

The project that started from the suburbs to involve the Lazio Region, Street Art for Rights, has concluded.

Street Art for Rights, the project that supports the creation of street art works in order to create an open-air museum, public and free for all, has concluded.

The initiative started in the suburbs of Settecamini and Corviale, where it addressed the themes of the UN 2030 agenda with street artists Moby Dick, Diamond and SOLO; it later expanded to the Lazio Region, involving artists Motorefisico, Tina Loiodice, Oniro, Marcello Russo and Alessandra Carloni. The latter created their works in Cassino and Latina to connect some areas of the region, marked by unique social and territorial contexts, with contemporary creative reality.

All the works were accomplished using special AirLite paints capable of absorbing pollutants and transforming them into inert substances thanks to sunlight that initiates a special chemical process.

The first phase of Street art for Rights, in Rome from March 18 to 28, in the Settecamini and Corviale neighborhoods, was conceived and directed by Giuseppe Casa, curated by Oriana Rizzuto and organized by the cultural associationTaste and Travel in collaboration with MArtegallery. It availed itself of the collaboration of ASviS - Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development and the partnerships ofWorld Food Programme Italia, Banco Alimentare, Comunità Sant’Egidio, Forum Disuguaglianze e Diversità, Italia che cambia, GreenPeace, MArte Social, Comitato di Quartiere di Settecamini, Laboratorio di Città Corviale, Museo delle Periferie, Wunderkammern Contemporary Art Gallery, Dorothy Circus Gallery, Contemporary Cluster. Below are some of the works realized.

Urka Urka Tirulero today shines the Solo created by street artist Solo in Settecamini: the theme is Goal 1 of the UN 2030 Agenda Defeating Poverty. A sighing and enamored Lady Marian looks with concern at the bounty notice hanging over the head of the beloved Robin Hood, generous and legendary folk hero. A seemingly simple image that speaks of complex choices and relationships and offers reflections on love and how right it is to put one’s life on the line for others, often generating apprehension and anxiety in those who love us. The protagonists confront opposing concepts such as wealth and poverty, redistribution and legality, love and a sense of duty. Perennial conflicts accompany characters that are quintessential symbols of the struggle and commitment to bridging inequality and giving everyone the opportunity to have the resources to participate fully in social life and contribute to the community with their abilities.

Supply and demand made by Diamond at Settecamini: theme is Goal 2 of the UN 2030 Agenda Defeating Hunger. The image is inspired by ancient Japanese prints and depicts an Oriental woman sitting by the hearth eating a meal of rice pancakes with wooden chopsticks. The girl’s long hair also comes alive to forge more typical Oriental cutlery and prepare to eat the dish. Rice, one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world, is here a symbol of health and vital energy and today a staple food for more than half of humanity. Food in the work is necessary and vital sustenance, not only from a physical point of view, but also from a metaphorical point of view as a sign of knowledge, culture and wisdom on which the mind and soul are nourished.

Respect Animal realized by Moby Dick in Corviale: theme is Goal 3 of the UN 2030 Health and Welfare Agenda.
