Rome reworked in Bollywood style: MAXXI acquires Navin Rawanchaikul's large canvas

MAXXI in Rome has acquired a large canvas by Indian painter Navin Rawanchaikul depicting Rome in the style... Bollywood.

An impressive oil on canvas that reworks the style of Indian film industry posters, in full Bollywood style, but instead captures theSouth Asian migrant community in their daily lives in and around Rome.

It is the work of Navin Rawanchaikul, Ciao da Roma, a work that speaks of diaspora but also of integration and cultural challenges, through the many stories collected by the artist during his stay in Rome and Lazio in 2018. The work will become part of the MAXXI Collection and can be admired from November 25, 2020 to March 7, 2021, in an exhibition curated by Hou Hanru and Donatella Saroli.
