A large installation by Marinella Senatore is coming to Palazzo Strozzi.

Palazzo Strozzi is preparing to host a large installation by Marinella Senatore, one of Italy's most famous and appreciated artists in the world.

In Florence, Palazzo Strozzi is preparing to host a major project by Marinella Senatore (Cava de’ Tirreni, 1977), an artist who is having increasing success with her participatory and relational art that blends different forms of expression, such as visual arts, dance and theater, and involves the active participation of the public and communities: it is We Rise by Lifting Others, an installation that will come to life in the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi from December 3, 2020 to February 7, 2021.

The Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi has invited Marinella Senatore to propose to the Florentine public a new reflection on the idea of community, closeness and relationship, in an age when distancing is conditioning the daily lives of all people. The project is curated by Arturo Galansino, director of Palazzo Strozzi, and consists of a large courtyard installation, inspired by the illuminations of the folk tradition of southern Italy(similar, therefore, to the much-discussed installation that Marinella Senatore presented this summer in Lecce for Christian Dior’s event), and a program of participatory workshops, focused on the idea of social activation and community building through performance practice.

Marinella Senatore, one of Italy’s best-known international artists, has created performances, paintings, collages, installations, videos and photographs, engaging entire communities around social issues and urban questions, such as emancipation and equality, aggregation systems and workers’ conditions. In 2013 he founded School of Narrative Dance, an educational project focused on inclusion and personal growth. Her works have been exhibited in various venues in Italy and around the world, such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the MAXXI museum in Rome, and she has participated in many important international biennials, such as Manifesta 12 and the Lyon and Venice Biennales. Marinella Senatore won the fourth edition of the Italian Council (2018), the MAXXI Prize, the fellowship of the American Academy in Rome, and the New York Prize.
