A new art park opens in Pavia, the Horti dell'Almo Collegio Borromeo

Starting today, the Horti dell'Almo Collegio Borromeo, an art park based on three pivotal themes, Art, Nature and Ethics, opens in Pavia.

Starting today, Saturday, Sept. 17, the Horti, the 35,000-square-foot art park of theAlmo Collegio Borromeo in Pavia, opens to the public. The institution has redeveloped the park as a place open to all and where natural habitats, contemporary art, ethics, equity and social inclusion are intertwined.

The more than three hectares in Pavia’s historic center overlooking the Ticino River, once dedicated to the cultivation of vegetable gardens and orchards, now aspire to become a place of sociality and interweaving of knowledge, whose overall project stems from the desire to enhance the historical heritage of Italy’s oldest university college of merit.

Based on three pivotal themes(Art, Nature and Ethics), the Horti intend to express with Horti.Oasi their commitment to the enhancement and protection of biodiversity, with Horti.Arte they offer a permanent exhibition of wall paintings and sculptures by contemporary artists to all, while with Horti.Etica they promote social inclusion, job rehabilitation and the promotion of volunteerism. It complements the Zero Park project, a food court run by Planeat.eco, which is particularly focused on a sustainable lifestyle.

The Horti project is an educational promise: “in such a complex social and historical moment as the current one,” said the Rector, Alberto Lolli, “the College intends to insert itself in an active way in the processes of revitalization and reconstruction of public space, promoting places of sociality, interweaving of knowledge and ethical sense.”

The Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation has enthusiastically joined the Horti.Arte project by granting on free loan a number of works from its collection, monumental sculptures by Arnaldo Pomodoro, Nicola Carrino, Gianfranco Pardi, Luigi Mainolfi, Mauro Staccioli and Salvatore Cuschera that will inhabit the park spaces, alongside works commissioned by the College from artists such as Ivan Tresoldi and David Tremlett. The Horti will be open to the public free of charge Tuesday through Sunday, which can also be visited through an App that will guide users to discover the beauty of the park.
