100 Songs in a Hundred Days: full reading of the Divine Comedy in Milan Cathedral

From April 7 to July 15, 2021, Milan Cathedral will organize "100 cantos in 100 days" with the full reading of the Divine Comedy.

On the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death, the hundred Cantos of the Divine Comedy will be read in their entirety in Milan Cathedral. In fact, from April 7 to July 15, 2021, Dante in Duomo will be organized in Milan’s cathedral. 100 Cantos in 100 Days, thanks to the collaboration of the musicians of La Scala Theater and the students of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano.

The initiative, which will last precisely for 100 days, is the brainchild of the cathedral’s archpriest, Monsignor Gianantonio Borgonovo, with the collaboration of the Veneranda Fabbrica and the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, which holds a wealth of Dante material. It is made possible thanks to the support of Intesa Sanpaolo and Retelit. Artistic direction is by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory.

“Yes, Dante in the Duomo! Not out of protagonism, but because already our fathers of the Veneranda Fabbrica, in 1418, organized a Lectura Dantis to raise funds for the construction of the nascent Cathedral,” the archpriest stressed. "Today, thanks to Massimiliano Finazzer Flory, we are proposing an integral reading of the Comedy to gather the beauty of Dante’s word, which has been alive in our culture for more than seven centuries-we are in fact remembering the seventh centenary of his death! -, as much as the Cathedral has lived in it for 634 years."

Admission to the readings will be free but reservations are required. More information will be provided soon, also according to the anti-Covid measures that will be in force.
