A virtual tour of the Gallerie d'Italia's record exhibition dedicated to Canova and Thorvaldsen


On the occasion of ICOM International Museum Day 2020, the Gallerie d'Italia is offering a virtual tour to relive the experience of the record exhibition Canova | Thorvaldsen.

On the occasion of ICOM International Museum Day 2020 and in anticipation of the reopening of museum venues, the Gallerie d’Italia presents animmersive virtual experience to relive the highly successful exhibition Canova | Thorvaldsen. The Birth of Modern Sculpture. In fact, the exhibition was visited by nearly 200,000 visitors, despite being closed due to the health emergency just days before its scheduled end.

Conceived and produced by Intesa Sanpaolo in partnership with theHermitage in St. Petersburg and the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen, and curated by Fernando Mazzocca and Stefano Grandesso, the exhibition made illustrated, for the first time in a dedicated exhibition, the comparison between the two great neoclassical artists, Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen, thanks to loans from Italian and foreign museums and important private collections.

From May 18, a virtual tour created in collaboration with Zeranta Edutainment will then be available on the Gallerie d’Italia website, giving a 360-degree view of the works on display in the exhibition.

This year’s International Museum Day is dedicated to the theme Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion, and the tour will offer insights in Italian, English and soon in Russian, with video footage and contributions in LIS.

On the same day, the documentary Canova | Thorvaldsen. The Factory of Beauty will be aired on RAI 5 at 12:45 p.m.
