Arte Fiera 2018, here are all the winners of the prizes raffled in Bologna

Here are all the winning works of the prizes offered at the 2018 edition of Arte Fiera in Bologna, with all the images of the works that won the awards.

There were six prizes up for grabs this year at the 42nd edition of Arte Fiera, the major market exhibition in Bologna. Here, prize by prize, are who the winning artists were.

1. Euromobil Prize.
The twelfth edition of the Gruppo Euromobil Prize, reserved for artists under 30, went ex aequo to Barbara De Vivi (Venice, 1991) and Matthew Attard (Malta, 1987). The former presented a Notturno (2017; oil on canvas, 140 x 200 cm) with Galleria Marcolini, while the latter’s work Untitled (You are a poser!) (2014; aluminum wire and wall, 200 x 180 cm), presented by Galleria Michela Rizzo, is by the latter. The jury’s motivations: “De Vivi’s painting is a large oil on canvas from which figures, animals, traces of nature emerge: a dense world full of learned quotations and references to the art of the past but also extremely contemporary in its mystery, in its unveiling little by little, in its reserved silence. Matthew Attard’s sculptures, made with aluminum wires - cross the thin line that divides abstraction and figuration by recomposing recognizable and even, since they are female figures, extremely seductive images.”

2. ANGAMC Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award given by the National Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries, now in its second year, was awarded this year to Milanese gallery owner Giorgio Marconi, who has been active for more than fifty years. Mauro Stefanini, president of ANGAMC, commented, “Through his work, Giorgio Marconi has ennobled the role of the gallerist, not only as an art dealer but as a true cultural operator who has contributed to transmitting and disseminating the most profound and innovative instances of 20th-century art.”

3. #ContemporaryYoung Award
The prize, awarded by the Giovani Imprenditori (Young Entrepreneurs) group of Confindustria Emilia, went to Rodrigo Hernández (Mexico City, 1983), author of the work Small Spaceman (2016), presented by the P420 gallery and winner out of a batch of thirty candidates of artists under 40 who were confronted with the theme “Art is work-is work art?” Here is the motivation: “This year’s jury selected a young gallery, a young and promising artist, but also an evocative work. The image of the astronaut, of the man who projects himself beyond the boundaries of the known, ready to explore, to discover, to become a pioneer and a forerunner, is as close as ever to that of the entrepreneur man, and is for us a metaphor for a daily journey that is accomplished, also, by looking far away.”

4. Centro Porsche Bologna Prize
The prize promoted by the Centro Porsche in Bologna and aimed at rewarding the union between art and mechanics was awarded to Martino Genchi (Milan, 1982) and his work Linger (2016), presented by Galleria Michela Rizzo. The motivation: “a work that interacts with the surrounding space, creating in an excellent material form a beam of light, touching the field of design.”

5. Rotary Award
The award sponsored by Rotary Bologna Valle del Samoggia went to Matèria Gallery in Rome. The jury’s motivation: “Taking into account the principles of Rotary, in particular fostering the dissemination of the culture of art among youth and spreading the principles of friendship and brotherhood among peoples, the jury unanimously identifies in the gallery Materia the commitment, coherence and ability to operate in a commercial context not neglecting, but enhancing the experimental element of new Italian artistic proposals.” The Rotaract Bologna prize was instead awarded to Giulia Marchi (Conegliano, 1983) and her Camera anecoica (2018), while the Andrea Sapone Special Prize went to Giuseppe De Mattia (Bari, 1980) for his work Salta pesce (2017).
