Bologna to host final edition of Fruit Exhibition, independent art publishing fair

Fruit Exhibition, the independent art publishing fair, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year but also announces its last edition: after 2022 there will be no more. The final edition will be held in Bologna from September 30 to October 2.

The fair of independent art publishing, Fruit Exhibition turns ten and announces its last edition: after the digital editions of 2020 and “one day” outdoor edition of 2021, the international festival and market returns to the presence from September 30 to October 2, 2022 with the traditional formula: a three-day fair that brings together examples of independent publications and a program of meetings, screenings, exhibitions, and workshops dedicated to the world of publishing.

For this final act, Fruit Exhibition has chosen as its venue DumBO, a temporary urban regeneration space a few hundred meters from downtown and the Central Station, ready to welcome the proposals of nearly one hundred Italian and international exhibitors including micro art publishers, self-publishers, graphic designers, illustrators and artists, contemporary graphic publishing houses, magazines, music labels, and artisan printers: on display, the public will be able to find artist’s books, catalogs, graphic design, zines, sound editions, illustration, photography, new types of printing, and traditional and digital publications.

There are two focuses this year: Invitation to Travel, curated by Chiara Capodici, book designer and founder of the Roman bookstore Leporello - photobooks et al, which emphasizes the importance of the dimension of the journey first and foremost interior, in its transcultural, historical and visionary meaning, which unfolds page after page and never as now is charged with great evocative power; Drawing (r)evolution, curated by Andrea LoSavio (D406 gallery) and Cinzia Ascari, instead investigates the growing interest in contemporary drawing in recent years, not only as a medium at the service of publishing but also as an autonomous and accomplished artistic form increasingly appreciated in the art market.

Ten workshops dedicated to education and creativity, ranging from traditional techniques such as lettering, screen printing and letterpress, to digital publishing and new technological frontiers: from Sept. 26 to Oct. 1, AvvistamentI. Bookmaking workshop, curated by Stefano Ricci; Saturday, Oct. 1, Zine Garden.
