Florence, Cosimo I meets the public on the 450th anniversary of his death

On the 450th anniversary of the passing of Cosimo I de' Medici, the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence is hosting a living history event in the Salone dei Cinquecento in which Cosimo I will meet the public.

April 21, 2024 marks the 450th anniversary of the death of Cosimo I de’ Medici, and on this occasion the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence’s Salone dei Cinquecento hosts a new living history event dedicated precisely to the Grand Duke of Tuscany. Most Illustrious Mr. Duke: Cosimo I de’ Medici, this is the title of the event curated by MUS.E, with the scientific coordination of Valentina Zucchi, and the direction of Alberto Galligani, stages the historical character of Cosimo I, who returns, for the magic of one evening, to live encounter with the public, restoring to paintings, sculptures and architecture the political and visual power they had five hundred years ago.
The Sala Grande in fact, as the Salone was called, is the place that more than any other encapsulates the history, deeds, projects, and dreams of a young duke who became lord of Florence at only seventeen years of age and was able to consolidate in absolute form his own government and the power of the Medici dynasty.

It will be the director Alberto Galligani himself who will step into the shoes of Cosimo I, together with Francesco Gori and Tommaso Palazzini.

The one-hour, 45-minute event is for everyone, young and old, and takes place on Sunday, April 21, at 7 p.m.

Costs: Full 20 euros; Reduced Conventions (Unicoop Florence, Order of Architects of Florence and Order of Lawyers of Florence) 15 euros; Reduced under 18 10 euros. Free for disabled and accompanying persons, ICOM, ICOMOS, ICCROM members. Museum tour not included.
