Milan, art documentaries return with "Visions of Art": this year films on brave artists from Gropius to Banksy

Milan, from March 10 to 31, the appointment with 'Visions of Art', the art documentary review of the Silvia Dell'Orso Association, returns.

From March 10 to 31, 2019, Milan ’s MuDEC will host the eighth edition of Visions of Art, the art documentary festival promoted by the Silvia Dell’Orso Association and curated by Micol Veller. For four Sundays, all at 4:30 p.m. and all with free admission, the screen in the MuDEC Auditorium will screen twenty-one documentaries from 1963 to the present, for more than six hours of programming in total. The theme of the 2019 edition is Courageous Artists, also in continuity with the exhibitions recently organized by MuDEC, from the Banksy exhibition to the Brave Captains exhibition on twentieth-century explorations.

After the success of the first editions, Visions of Art continues its project of telling, with the effectiveness of the visual medium, how the ability to narrate issues related to our cultural heritage has changed over time, using works chosen for their characteristics as serious documents of dissemination.

It begins on Sunday, March 10: the first day starts with a focus on artists who have made travel a source of inspiration and contamination: from Caravaggio, Paul Gauguin and Marcel Duchamp to contemporaries Costantino Nivola, Hidetoshi Nagasawa and Adrian Paci. It continues on Sunday, March 17, with a day dedicated to Banksy and his unauthorized art: scheduled is the integral viewing of Exit through the gift shop, the 2010 film directed by Banksy that recounts the birth and secrets of street art. Sunday, March 24, architecture and design take the stage: from Gropius to Lloyd Wright to Gaetano Pesce and Cai Guo Qiang, but also the urban landscape with the reconstruction of Beirut and the monumental ruins of the unfinished Italian. Finale on Sunday, March 31 with a selection of films on gallery owners and collectors: five stories for the most important and eclectic protagonists of the twentieth-century art adventure, namely Peggy Guggenheim, Leo Castelli, Arturo Schwarz, Lucio Amelio and Giuseppe Panza di Biumo.
