New film on van Gogh premieres in Milan on Dec. 2, as part of ImmaginArte 2018

Kicking off the 2018 edition of ImmaginArte: it will conclude on December 2, 2018 with a screening of At Eternity's Gate, the new film about Vincent van Gogh.

Scheduled from November 11 to December 2, 2018, in the halls of Anteo Palazzo del Cinema in Milan is the fourth edition of the ImmaginArte festival, the schedule that combines art and cinema with screenings of films dedicated to great artists. The highlight of the 2018 edition will be the premiere screening of At Eternity’s gate, Julian Schnabel ’s film featuring Willem Dafoe in the role of Vincent van Gogh (a performance that earned the American actor the Coppa Volpi at the 75th Venice Film Festival). But that’s not all: another novelty this year is the “doubling” of screenings, since ImmaginArte also arrives in Monza with four more films, for a total of eight screenings that will enliven the schedule this year. The films, chosen for their cinematic quality, for the artists who are the protagonists and for their popularizing capacity, will be introduced by Stefano Zuffi, art historian and great popularizer who will narrate in a compelling but rigorous way the artistic and human story of the artists and their works.

Opening on Nov. 11 at 10:30 a.m. in Milan with Klimt, a 2006 film directed by Raúl Ruiz about the life of the Austrian artist played by John Malkovich. Sunday, Nov. 18, is the turn of The Girl with the Pearl Earring, a 2003 film directed by Peter Webber based on the protagonist of Vermeer’s famous painting. The third appointment will be with Monuments men, a 2014 film written, directed and starring George Clooney focusing mainly on the figure of Van Eyck. ImmaginArte 2018 in Milan concludes, as anticipated, on December 2 with the premiere screening of At Eternity’s Gate, Julian Schnabel’s film about the life of Van Gogh presented at the last Venice Film Festival.

In contrast, the Monza section will open on Nov. 9 at 3:30 p.m.: Loving Vincent from 2017, a British-Polish animated film about the life of Vincent Van Gogh through his paintings, will be screened. On Friday, Nov. 16, it will be the turn of Frida, Julie Taymor’s 2002 film starring Salma Hayek telling the story of the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. It continues with The Last Inquisitor on Nov. 23, which introduces the tormented figure of Francisco Goya during the period of the Holy Inquisition. Last on Nov. 30 is Woman in gold, a 2015 film directed by Simon Curtis based on the true story of Maria Altmann and her lawsuit to the Austrian government to recover the painting Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer by Gustav Klimt, stolen from her family by the Nazis.
