An immersive room lets you enter the gestural and creative world of Emilio Vedova

On the occasion of the "Vedova Revolution" exhibition at M9 - Museo del '900 in Mestre, Vitruvio Virtual Reality has created a site-specific video installation dedicated to Emilio Vedova. An immersive room to enter the gestural and creative world of the artist.

On the occasion of the exhibition Rivoluzione Vedova conceived and designed by Fondazione Emilio e Annabianca Vedova and co-produced with M9 - Museo del ’900, Vitruvio Virtual Reality curated, conceived and created the site-specific video installation and immersive projection area to celebrate the art of Emilio Vedova.

On view until Nov. 26, 2023 on the third floor of the Mestre museum and curated by Gabriella Belli, the exhibition opens an unprecedented path that chooses contemporary art as a tool to explore and interpret the social, cultural, political, and economic history of the 20th century, and emphasizes the central role of Emilio Vedova, whose work is an interpreter of and witness to a strong historical and civic connection to the events that marked the 20th century and for this one of great topicality.

The installation by Vitruvio Virtual Reality, a Bologna-based studio specializing in computer graphics, aims to be a challenge to representation, a guide to the discovery of the sign and places that have characterized the artist’s life. Through the analysis of his work and theoretical corpus, the multidisciplinary team of Vitruvio Virtual Reality has brought its own contribution with a short film lasting 3 minutes and 30 seconds designed to be projected in a special immersive space that will envelop the visitor by placing him at the center of the great Venetian artist’simagination. An immersive room for anemotional experience in the gestural and creative world of Emilio Vedova.

The site-specific multimedia work titled Nel tumulto (In Tumult ) sits between painting, philosophy, architecture and the signs of a visual imaginary borrowed from the Venetian genius loci.

“Through the three-dimensional processing of the image rendered with a seemingly two-dimensional technique, in black and white, key colors of the artist’s pictorial language, we created an empathic identification between viewer and artist in the form of an introspective dialogue with the semiotic context of the city,” said Simone Salomoni project coordinator and co-founder of Vitruvio Virtual Reality.

The central theme of the installation is the relationship between the artist and the city, which Vedova has always considered as a source of inspiration. Indeed, his work is closely linked to the lagoon context, its light, colors and architecture. The video explores the artist’s emotional state, the semantic shift between object and sign, the kinesthetic impulse and gesture that becomes an energetic action, almost a performance. The Vitruvius Virtual Reality installation thus completes the exhibition itinerary of the exhibition, which recounts with one hundred and thirty works the point of view of the great artist and intellectual, confronting us, through his works, with the “hot” chapters of our recent history, from the rubble of World War II to the events of international politics that shook the world in the 1960s and 1970s and well beyond, to the threshold of the 2000s.

Immersing himself In the tumult, the visitor, whose point of view also coincides with the pictorial plane, will witness a narrative developed on two converging levels, punctuated by moments of immersion in the action-gesture in which layers of signs and painting add up to each other and by contemplative moments in which the places and architecture of Venice that inspired Vedova’s works emerge.

The exhibition is under the patronage of the Veneto Region and the City of Venice and is supported as main sponsor by Generali Valore Cultura, Generali Italia’s multi-year program to make art and culture accessible to an ever-widening public and to enhance the community and territories, and by SAVE Group.
