The exhibition Le Muse opened in Milan, at Spazio Donno, showing works by artist Andrea Chisesi (Rome, 1972), a photographer who has collaborated with magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, Max, Rolling Stones and with personalities such as Steven Tyler, Robbie Williams, Harvey Keitel and Ken Follet, as well as an artist in constant search of contaminations between painting and photography. The exhibition, on view through March 18, is meant to be a tribute of sorts to women: for Chisesi, the Muses constitute recurring traces within his poetics, and the Milan show, curated by Marcella Damigella, casts a retrospective glance at his works that have women as a central element.

“Chisesi’s extraordinary vision of woman,” reads the presentation of the exhibition, “is linked to the theme of transfiguration, to that radical change that has exalted feminine essence and beauty over the centuries. As it emerges from her most intimate poetics, Andrea Chisesi never highlights the woman as an object or victim of acts of violence, but rather exalts her essence of fragility and strength. Through contemporary iconography, Chisesi praises her value and those female characteristics, which outside the dictates of her untouchable aura of protection, depict the core of her importance in life and civilization. Women for Chisesi are definitely strong, talented as is evident from the mark that Andrea imprints on his art when he traces the very long thread of the muses that despite the centuries, eras and times past, have come down to us.”

In Andrea Chisesi’s work, the curator points out, “there is no urgency to search for perfection, but only a need for consistency in the vision of a woman placed, in her view, always at the center of the world.”

The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is free.
