Anna Boghiguian's first retrospective at Castello di Rivoli

The first major retrospective exhibition dedicated to Egyptian-Canadian artist Anna Boghiguian is on view at the Castello di Rivoli until January 7, 2018.

The first major retrospective exhibition dedicated to Egyptian and Canadian (Cairo, 1946) artist Anna Boghiguian is on view at the Castello di Rivoli until January 7, 2018.

On display are drawings, photographs, sculptures, notebooks, installations and paintings with a strong visual and emotional impact that refer to the concept of books. In fact, the artist has made a great many artist’s books in the course of her work. Even the large-scale installations can be traced back to giant, expanded, almost pop-up books: the effect is extraordinary. Examples in the exhibition are Unfinished Symphony (2011-12) and The Salt Merchants (2015).

Anna Boghiguian won the Golden Lion for Best Pavilion (Armenia) at the 2015 Venice Biennale and has participated in the Sharjah Biennale, dOCUMENTA(13) in Kassel in 2012 and the Istanbul Biennale in 2009 and 2015.

The retrospective is curated by Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and Marianna Vecellio and is produced in collaboration with Sharjah Art Foundation in Sharjah, UAE, where it will be presented from March 16 to June 16, 2018.
