Extraordinary public success for the Caravaggio 2025 exhibition at the National Galleries of Ancient Art in Rome, at the Palazzo Barberini venue(here is our review): as we reported a few days ago, less than two months after its opening, the exhibition is already completely sold out, registering an unprecedented turnout and confirming itself as one of the most important art events of the year. In response to the great enthusiasm of the public, from Thursday, May 29, 2025, as we had anticipated, the opening hours of the exhibition will be extended until midnight, Thursday through Sunday, with last entry at 11 pm.
An initiative made possible thanks to the efforts of the museum and the curatorial team, which aims to ensure wider accessibility to this exhibition-event, which has brought the work and figure of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio back to the center of cultural debate.
Further novelties are then added to the calendar starting in June. Coinciding with the closure of schools, from Monday, June 3, Monday morning access will be extended to individual visitors as well, no longer reserved exclusively for groups, thus allowing an even wider audience to participate. In addition, every Tuesday, starting Tuesday, June 10, the exhibition will remain open until 10 p.m., with last admission at 9 p.m.
All the new time slots will be bookable online starting Monday, May 26, 2025 at 10 a.m., and a further wave of requests are expected from enthusiasts, scholars, and visitors from all over Italy and abroad.
Curated by Francesca Cappelletti, Maria Cristina Terzaghi, and Thomas Clement Salomon, and produced in collaboration with Galleria Borghese, the CARAVAGGIO 2025 exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Culture’s Directorate General for Museums and Main Partner Intesa Sanpaolo. It presents twenty-four paintings, from prestigious public and private, Italian and international collections, some of which are rarely seen by the public. The exhibition also offers the unique opportunity to visit-with a special ticket linked to that of the exhibition-the Casino dell’Aurora Boncompagni Ludovisi, a place charged with history and intimately linked to Baroque art, further evidence of the network of patrons who supported Caravaggio during his troubled and fascinating career.
The sell-out recorded in the first weeks confirms how Caravaggio is still today an artist capable of attracting masses and stimulating thought. His universal language, the power of his images and the complexity of his figure continue to exert an irresistible fascination on scholars and the general public. Let’s recap the new hours:
From Thursday, May 29: Thursday-Sunday open until midnight (last admission 11 p.m.);
From Monday, June 3: Monday morning also open to individual visitors;
From Tuesday, June 10: Tuesday open until 10 p.m. (last admission 9 p.m.);
Online reservations: the new bands will be available from May 26 at 10:00 am.
