Caravaggio exhibition sold out: how to visit it anyway

Sold out Caravaggio exhibition: until the closing date (July 6) no more single tickets can be purchased. However, there is still a way to visit the exhibition. Here's how.

Sold out for the Caravaggio exhibition in Rome. The Caravaggio 2025 exhibition, housed in the historic rooms of Palazzo Barberini (our review here), is already all booked up for single visitors until its closing date, July 6, 2025. The inability to find a date to reserve one’s ticket thus confirms the overwhelming success of the event, which is catalyzing the attention of national and international audiences.

The exhibition, considered one of the most important ever dedicated to Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, presents an exceptional body of works from museums and collections around the world. Natural, then, that masterpieces such as the Bari, St. Catherine of Alexandria, Judith and Holofernes, the Flagellation, the Conversion of Saul from the Odescalchi Collection and the highly anticipated newly discovered Ecce Homo continue to attract a steady stream of visitors and fans.

The availability of individual tickets, which can be purchased online and at the museum’s box office, sold out in record time, a testament to the strong appeal of Caravaggio’s genius. For those who do not want to miss the exhibition, however, there is still at least one chance.

How to visit the exhibition anyway

At the moment, the only possibility is a group visit for groups consisting of a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 25 participants: in this case, the first availabilities are currently for May 26 (there are weekends when even group visits are already sold-out anyway). Some entities are organizing open group visits: among them, the CaravaggioNews portal has organized visits for Monday, June 30, with still some places free (the price is 25 euros with skip-the-line ticket, compulsory radio guide and guided tour with Michele Cuppone, authoritative Caravaggio scholar and author of the book Caravaggio. The Nativity in Palermo). Real-time information on the portal’s Facebook page.

Alternatively, it is possible to organize a group on your own, or search on social media if there is someone willing to give up a ticket. It is not certain, however, that Palazzo Barberini, given the enormous success of the exhibition, will not decide to establish extraordinary openings, perhaps in the evening or at night, as has been done in the past, in other museums, for similar occasions. The suggestion is to follow the museum’s social channels to stay updated.
