Gallarate to have an exhibition on the Impressionists coming to the MA*GA Museum

The MA*GA Museum in Gallarate is hosting from March 12 to September 5, 2021 the exhibition "Impressionists. At the Origins of Modernity," dedicated to the movement that renewed painting in the 19th century.

From March 12 to September 5, 2021, the MA*GA Museum in Gallarate will host the exhibition Impressionists. At the Origins of Modernity, which opens the Lombard museum’s 2021 program. The exhibition presents 180 works by the major exponents of French and Italian painting of the Second Nineteenth Century, from Géricault to Courbet, Manet to Renoir, Monet to Cézanne to Gauguin, Boldini and De Nittis, from Italian and French public and private collections.

The exhibition of the <a href=“/art-base/impressionistswho-were-principal-artists-impressionism” target=“_blank”>impressionists is curated by an international scientific committee, composed of Gilles Chazal, former director of the Petit Palais in Paris, Alessandro Castiglioni, Vittoria Broggini, Fiorella Minervino, Virginia Hill, Vincenzo Sanfo, under the direction of Emma Zanella and Sandrina Bandera, director and president of the museum. Produced with the support of the City of Gallarate, Ricola, Lamberti SpA, Ciaccio Art Broker, Castaldi Lighting SpA, and MMG Srl, the exhibition narrates the stylistic revolution enacted by the movement born in France at the end of the 19th century, through a path that goes to the origins of the languages and aesthetic issues that characterize contemporary visual culture.

The itinerary is divided into a series of themes devoted to some of the central issues of Impressionism: the ’academy-realism’ dialectic, the renewed focus on nature, the first images of modern life, up to the move away from the Impressionist lesson toward a Symbolist language. Accompanying the exhibition is a Nomos editions catalog, with texts by Gilles Chazal, Sandrina Bandera, Paolo Castagnone, Fiorella Minervino, Virginia Hill, Vincenzo Sanfo and Emma Zanella.

Side events include a concert for violin and piano by Maestros Bruno Canino and Alessandra Sonia Romano on Saturday, March 20, 2021, who will perform a program of music by composers of the Impressionist period. In addition, to delve deeper into the figures of some of the masters featured in the exhibition, every Sunday starting January 10, 2021 at 5:30 p.m., a live broadcast on the Museum’s Facebook channel will feature an in-depth discussion of the lives and anecdotes that characterized the biographical events of the protagonists of Impressionism.
