From Oct. 22, 2025 until Christmas, the Candiolo Institute-IRCCS is hosting the photographic exhibition Due cuori e una capanna (Two Hearts and a Hut ) by photographer Daniele Ratti, curated by Benedetta Donato, set up in a new exhibition space specially created inside the Institute.
After being at the Gallerie d’Italia in Naples until Oct. 5, 2025, the exhibition lands in Candiolo thanks to the Piedmont Foundation for Cancer Research. Two Hearts and a Hut is in fact the official exhibition of Life is Pink-the Foundation’s October campaign against female canc ers-and Life is Blue, the November campaign against male cancers. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog published by Allemandi, the proceeds of which will go to support the cancer treatment and research activities promoted by the Candiolo Institute - IRCCS. The volume will be officially presented in Turin, at Libreria Luxemburg in Galleria San Federico, on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Daniele Ratti’s photographic project explores the connection between great love stories and the architecture that housed them. The title, taken from a saying that has entered common language, evokes the deep understanding between two people who share their lives within a common space, whatever it may be.
The author’s reflection starts from the history of architecture, where the hut represents the symbol of the primitive dwelling: an essential shelter, created to protect man from the adversities of nature, but also an ideal model that modern architects have continued to look to as the archetype of the first home.
Domestic intimacy and architectural design thus constitute the two matrices from which a journey begins in 2020 and ends in 2024, through dwellings extraordinary in concept and the couples who inhabited them. With his photography, Daniele Ratti restores this memory made of relationships, affections and lived spaces.
The exhibition invites the public to symbolically enter private dwellings, revealing lights and shadows, rooms and details, projects and thoughts enclosed within the domestic walls. Through 42 photographs, selected from a large body of work, the author’s intimate gaze takes visitors on an unprecedented journey through historic houses, modern architecture and contemporary spaces, famous or lesser known, where love stories and bonds deeply rooted in the places themselves are intertwined.
