In Turin the first solo exhibition in Italy of Camille Llobet

For the first time in Italy, Camille Llobet's solo exhibition, Risvolto. In Turin at Recontemporary, November 2-30, 2019.

From November 2 to 30, 2019, Camille Llobet’s solo exhibition entitled Risvolto will be open to the public for the first time in Italy. Curated in collaboration with Paris-based Florence Loewy Gallery during Artissima and Art week in Turin, the exhibition will be held at Recontemporary, the only space in Italy totally dedicated toart in video.

The four videos and performance in the exhibition will focus on the distance between language and its representation, nonverbal expressions of communication and substitute ways of manifesting emotions, highlighting how body movements, sounds and words can take on multiple meanings.

In Majelich (2018), we witness an opera singer reproducing live the first phonemes articulated by the artist’s daughter. The sounds, which may appear meaningless at first listen, refer back to the genesis of the word. Camille Llobet uses performance as a device to analyze the codes of language. The video Voir ce qui est dit (2016) is an exploration of two antithetical worlds, music and silence. The artist stages a performance involving a conductor and a deaf performer, whose task is to translate through sign language the music she cannot hear, while the video Faire la musique (2017) analyzes body language, showing professional athletes undergoing special mental training to reproduce the movements they make during competitions: here the artist relates gesture and memory, starting from the theory of mirror neurons, according to which thinking about an action or physically performing the action itself activates the same reactions in our brains. From the work Revers, created in the summer of last year during the Le Cyclop art residency in France, comes the performance that the artist will enact on the evening of Nov. 1, on the occasion of the exhibition preview.

In Turin, Camille Llobet is also exhibiting as part of the Artissima Telephone exhibition project, scheduled from Nov. 1 to 3 at OGR- Officine Grandi Riparazioni.
