Marina Abramović's pop-up exhibition comes to London, about the 5 objects she would keep for the future

What objects would Marina Abramović save for the future? That is the question answered by a unique, free pop-up exhibition by the artist to be held in London Sept. 10-12.

A pop-up exhibition of Marina Abramović’s work is coming to London, which will last only three days, from September 10 to 12: titled Traces, it is an immersive experience that seals the collaboration between the artist and WePresent, the WeTransfer (the well-known file transfer site) platform dedicated to the arts. In fact, WeTransfer has been presenting its users with backgrounds and graphics inspired by the artist’s works for some time now.

What objects would Marina Abramović take with her in a time capsule for future generations, and what do these objects tell about the artist? This is the question Traces aims to answer. There are five objects in all, and each of them is dedicated to one of the five rooms that will be set up for the occasion at London’s Old Truman Brewery, an old London brewery where it will also be possible to see two works by Marina Abramović, namely Crystal Cinema from 1991 and 10,000 stars from 2015. Each of the five rooms will be conceived as an immersive installation dedicated to the five objects (others include, for example, Vincent van Gogh ’s Starry Night and Susan Sontag’s essays.

“This experience,” said Marina Abramović, "marks the final phase of my collaboration with WePresent, which has always been willing to seek new interpretations of my work and passions. From shining a light on extraordinary performance talents around the world to bringing the Abramović method to people in such a unique way, this is complemented by a free immersive experience showcasing 5 objects that I believe we need to preserve for the future. From the amazing natural delight of the Rose of Jericho, to Susan Sontag’s crucial essay Regarding the Pain of Others."

The pop-up exhibition (this term refers to a temporary event that takes place over a very limited period of time, usually characterized by great immersiveness and contact with the works) will be totally free of charge, and reservations must be made in order to visit, starting August 18, the date bookings open. For those who will not be able to travel to London, the exhibition will also be viewable virtually on WePresent.
