Michelangelo Galliani's poetry of marble is on display in Carrara

From July 24 to Sept. 15, Vôtre's elegant spaces in the 18th-century rooms of the Palazzo del Medico in Carrara will host "Nebula," a new solo exhibition by Emilian artist Michelangelo Galliani.

From July 24 to Sept. 15, 2021, the Vôtre space in Carrara will host the exhibition Nebula, a solo show by sculptor Michelangelo Galliani (Montecchio Emilia, 1975) in the 18th-century rooms of Palazzo del Medico, rich in stucco, frescoes and marble decorations. Promoted by Vôtre spazi contemporanei, with the collaboration of Cris Contini Contemporary and Galleria Giovanni Bonelli, the exhibition revolves around an exhibition itinerary on the main floor of the palace, a late Baroque jewel of the 18th century in Carrara, and includes a concise selection of works, some of them previously unpublished, that the artist himself and Nicola Ricci, president of the Vôtre Cultural Association and owner of the space of the same name at Palazzo del Medico, have chosen to place in dialogue with the place that hosts them.

On display will be the triptych Blu (2012), composed of three engravings in burin on lead, two Vanitas (2021), respectively in onyx and black marquinia marble with vine shoots in gold and silver leaf, and the work Rebvs vitae (2018), recently presented at the Basilica of San Celso in Milan. Inside the alcove, a triumph of white and polychrome marble, the polyptych Nebula (2021), which gives the exhibition its title, will be installed. Unopera in statuary marble from Carrara, worked as if it were a sheet of paper, which was created from a photograph of a nebula captured by the Hubble Space Telescope.

“I have always frequented Carrara and its marbles,” explains Michelangelo Galliani, “its workers and their hard work. Its quarries have been a visceral love from the beginning. I have always struggled with a material that is as hostile as it is sweet and wonderful. The works selected for the exhibition creep into a baroque space laden with history, frills and color. Works born from the ashes of this important past to dialogue with the present in new forms.”

The solo exhibition will be open until Sept. 15, 2021, in July and September from Tuesday to Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m., in August from Tuesday to Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m., Sunday by appointment. Free admission. For information: phone +39 3384417145, associazionevotre@gmail.com, nicolaricci1@virgilio.it.
