The Marino Marini Museum is hosting the exhibition Mystyc India from Dec. 6 to 16, 2019, with shots by Parul Sharma, among India's most prominent female photographers.

From Dec. 6 to 16, 2019, the Crypt of the Marino Marini Museum in Florence will host the exhibition Mystyc India, featuring shots by Parul Sharma (New Delhi, 1972), one of India’s most prominent female photographers.

The photographs on display depict the Kumbh Mela, the world’s largest religious event “beyond imagination”: it is the largest gathering of Hindu pilgrims that constitutes an ancient ritual.

The exhibition, organized with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of New Delhi and in conjunction with the River to River Florence Indian Festival, documents the Hindu pilgrimage that takes place every three years and coevolves more than one hundred million people, during which devotees and ascetics immerse themselves at the confluence of the Yamuna and Sarawat with the waters of the Ganges River.

Parul Sharma says he had always wanted to be there and bathe in those waters to take the sacred “Snan,” a symbol of washing away all sins. "I, too, was caught up in the need for the search for the self, and these images are my discovery of the depth and dynamics of faith.
The photographs taken by me between the night and dawn of Shahi Snan not only a visual vortex of saffron, ash, water, smoke and salvation, but document the greatest expression of faith in the world."

To round out the theme, the Marino Marini Museum will provide conversations and workshops.

Hours: Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets: 6 euros.
