PAC Milan, Italy's first monographic exhibition bringing together the films of Yuri Ancarani, from his early days to the present day

The PAC Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea in Milan presents the first monographic exhibition in Italy dedicated to the visionary and poetic research of Yuri Ancarani. Gathered in one location is a selection of his films, from the beginnings to the present.

From April 4 to June 11, 2023, the PAC Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea in Milan presents Lascia stare i sogni, the first monographic exhibition in Italy dedicated to the visionary and poetic research of Yuri Ancarani (Ravenna, 1972), whose works arise from an original and accurate mixture of documentary cinema and video art. With the same lucid and impartial gaze that has always distinguished the artist’s point of view, the exhibition aims to bring out the most authentic aspects of Ancarani’s production, revealing its different nuances and linguistic codes through a wide selection of works from the past and a new work designed specifically for the Milanese museum venue.

The title of the exhibition is a quote taken from his latest film, Atlantis: it is the phrase that the main character Daniele says to his young girlfriend Maila, and which becomes an invitation to see the exhibition without referring to those dreams that the film industry is often used to evoke.

For the first time, Ancarani’s films, which have been presented in the world’s major festivals and most prestigious contemporary art museums, can be seen united in a single venue, thanks to a selection ranging from his early days to the present day.

Promoted by the Municipality of Milan - Culture and produced by PAC with Silvana Editoriale, the exhibition is curated by Diego Sileo and Iolanda Ratti, realized in partnership with MAMbo - Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna, which until May 7 hosts the project Atlantide 2017-2033 curated by Lorenzo Balbi. Leave Dreams Alone is flagship event of Milan Art Week (April 11 - 16, 2023).
