Sensorio Indiscreto, Simone Pellegrini brings his new large-scale work to Bologna

From Feb. 1 to 16, 2019, Simone Pellegrini is featured in Bologna with the exhibition 'Sensorio Indiscreto' presenting his new large-scale work.

Continuing a well-established tradition, the LabOratorio degli Angeli on the occasion of Arte Fiera opens its doors to pay homage to yesterday’s and today’s protagonists of Italian art, with an exclusive event in which historical-critical in-depth study is combined with the study of contemporary installation and conservation issues. After the exhibitions de dicated to Aldo Mondino, Piero Manai, Maurizio Osti, Luca Caccioni and Pinuccia Bernardoni, this year the restoration workshop reinforces its bond with the Bolognese territory by presenting, from February 1 to 16, 2019, a solo show by Simone Pellegrini (Ancona, 1972) entitled Sensorio Indiscreto, a project selected and promoted as part of ART CITY Signals 2019. A refined interpreter of the most recent instances of Italian painting, with Sensorio Ind iscreto Simone Pellegrini embellishes his research on gesture and pictorial form with a new and important piece, presenting a large installation created for the occasion and set up in the oratory of theformer church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the current site of the restoration atelier.

The title Sensorio Indiscreto (Indiscreet Sensory) highlights Pellegrini’s relationship with the material, paper, charcoal, pigments and a working technique similar to monotype printing that make the approach to his works an intense sensory experience, to which is added the unique and firmly connoted language of his graphic gesture that creates a painting made up of signs and figures that meet and arrange themselves freely on the paper, like a continuous flow of impulses and ideas that give life to a visual map of his imagery. Three large papers are arranged in the space of the former Oratory to create a dialogue with the environment, confronting the different surfaces on which the artist has chosen to place them. Stretched out on a plane, set up vertically or left free and suspended, the three works connect to the central visual element of a scenographic backdrop specially created for the occasion.

In the Library room, Simone Pellegrini presents a second environmental installation, a dialogue between the arts of drawing and writing that is evi denated in the books on which the artist intervenes, tracing on them images free from all interpretation. Action follows thought. The artist in the exercise of reading gives it form and completeness, reinforces it in a vision that breaks down expressive con- finitions. The texts in the exhibition are part of Simone Pellegrini’s personal and studio library. With Sensorio Indiscreto, the LabOratorio degli Angeli continues its research on conservation methods on materials in contemporary art and works on paper. In the installations of the spaces of the former church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, the skills of the Restoration Laboratory went to meet the exhibition needs of the artist, finding appropriate mounting solutions. The phases related to the handling, suspension and anchoring of the large paper works, with respect to their conservation and enhancement, were conducted using suitable materials and reversible methodologies. All phases of the handling and installation are documented and presented in special panels in the exhibition.

Simone Pellegrini was born in Ancona in 1972. He lives and works in Bologna, where he teaches and his studio is based. His career as an artist began in 1996, during his formative years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino, where he graduated in 2000. Since 2003, with the solo show Rovi da far calce, he began his collaboration with Galleria Cardelli & Fontana in Sarzana (La Spezia), inaugurating a long season of subsequent exhibitions and international fairs. In 2006 he presented the solo show Stille at Galerie Hachmeister in Münster, which became his first gallery in Germany. He has also been represented by Montoro12 Rome - Brussels since 2015 and has been collaborating with James Freeman Gallery in London since recently 2017.
