The great Venetian eighteenth century is on display in Russia: Tiepolo, Canaletto, Guardi, Longhi and others fly to Moscow

The exhibition 'From Tiepolo to Canaletto and Guardi' is underway in Moscow until October 14, 2018, bringing works by the greats of the 18th-century Veneto to Russia.

The exhibition “From Tiepolo to Canaletto and Guardi” is open in Moscow until October 14, 2018, displaying 57 works by the greatest Venetian masters of the 18th century in the Pushkin Museum’s spaces. The artists in question are Giambattista Tiepolo, Giambattista Pittoni, Luca Carlevarijs, Giambattista Piazzetta, Canaletto, Francesco Guardi and Pietro Longhi. As the name suggests, the exhibition will take a particular look at Tiepolo, Canaletto and Guardi, considered the most representative artists of the Venetian scene of the time.

Among the works on display, 23 come from the Civic Museum of Palazzo Chiericati in Vicenza, 25 from the Pushkin Museum and 9 from the Gallerie d’Italia - Palazzo Leoni Montanari, the Vicenza branch of the Intesa Group’s museum center.

Antonio Fallico, president of Banca Intesa Russia, which collaborated in the creation of the exhibition, comments, “The development of the collaboration with the Pushkin Museum further enriches the history of Intesa Sanpaolo’s presence in the Russian Federation, interweaving economy and art, business and culture. I am convinced that the resulting synergies are a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the cultural heritage and masterpieces of the two countries, making them closer and more cohesive. Today we are making the masterpieces of our Gallerie d’Italia in Vicenza available in Moscow in the hope of encouraging visitors to make an upcoming trip to Italy and in particular to our three museums in Milan, Naples and Vicenza where part of our collection of works of art is displayed in the historic palaces once used for banking functions and completely redeveloped.”

The exhibition is curated by Professor Giovanni Carlo Federico Villa, honorary director of the Vicenza Civic Museums, and Dr. Vittoria Markova, chief curator of the Pushkin Museum’s collection of Italian paintings.
