Tips and Thunders: Federico Tosi transforms Fermo's historic spaces with sculptures and installations

Federico Tosi's solo exhibition, curated by Matilde Galletti and hosted in the spaces of Palazzo dei Priori in Fermo, unfolds among the remains of the church of San Martino, offering a path between sculpture, painting and immersive installations.

From Dec. 7, 2025 to Jan. 15, 2026, the spaces of Fermo ’s Palazzo dei Priori will host Tips and Thunders, Federico Tosi ’s solo exhibition curated by Matilde Galletti and realized by Karussell. The exhibition was conceived and created specifically for the remains of the church of San Martino, in an environment where modern functional elements, such as electrical panels and disused piping, coexist with solemnly medieval architecture dating back to the 12th century. In this context, Tosi’s works occupy the space with a generative force that acts on both physical and emotional levels. The installations dialogue with each other and with the architectural structure, propagating a sensation similar to a telluric force that evokes ancient memories and potential images. The layout follows a circular pattern, in which the visitor is invited to pause, observe and listen to the multiple voices of place and artistic narrative. The lighting, calibrated in isolated cones of light, creates a dreamlike effect in which the real is reflected and transformed into fantastic and surreal writings, approaching an experience reminiscent of a lucid dream.

Notes on the artist

Federico Tosi was born in Milan in 1988 and completed his art studies between the Liceo Artistico and the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduated in painting in 2008 and earned a master’s degree in sculpture in 2012, with an exchange year at Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul. In 2014 he obtained a diploma in thanatoesthetics and thanatopraxis at Terracielo Funeral Home in Modena. Since 2024 he has taught sculpture at the Liceo Artistico Giovanni XXIII in Milan. His research is characterized by a critical and cynical observation of contemporary reality, in which humanity is often questioned and nature assumes a dominant and rebellious role. Tosi’s works are shot through with a sense of melancholy and nostalgia, address issues related to pollution, overpopulation and the transformation of the planet, and reflect a dystopian vision of the future. Irony and the grotesque permeate his production, in which disease, catastrophe, old age and immortality are reinterpreted and placed in an unstable context, where past and future intertwine, making it impossible to place the works in a precise time.

Central to Tosi’s work is an in-depth study of fossils and primitive life forms from different eras, up to the age of sapiens. Particular attention is paid to fungi, mycelia and plant intelligence, and their relationship to human existence. The artist observes nature with almost maniacal precision, an approach that is reflected in his slow and painstaking practice and use of materials. His production ranges from drawing to painting and sculpture, employing resins, terracotta, concrete and robotic sculptures, chosen according to the needs of each project.
