Turin, two masterpieces by Cima da Conegliano spend the holidays at Intesa Sanpaolo

Two masterpieces by Cima da Conegliano arriving from the Petit Palais in Paris and the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna are the stars of The Illustrious Guest 2021 event: they will spend the holidays on display at the Intesa Sanpaolo Skyscraper in Turin.

Two masterpieces by Cima da Conegliano (Giovanni Battista Cima; Conegliano, 1459/1460 - 1517/1518) arrive in Turin, at the Intesa Sanpaolo Skyscraper, from the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna and the Petit Palais in Paris. These are two loans arriving for the annual L’Ospite illustre exhibition, curated and promoted by Intesa Sanpaolo, which since 2015 has exhibited a major work on temporary loan from prestigious Italian and foreign museums in its museums in the Gallerie d’Italia and at the Skyscraper in Turin.

This year, from December 22, 2021, to January 9, 2022, two works by the great artist who was among the leading exponents of the Venetian school between the 15th and 16th centuries arrive as mentioned. Both paintings depict the Madonna and Child: thus, for the first time, there will be two “distinguished guests” starring in the now traditional Turin exhibition event that the Bank organizes during the winter holiday season. After last year’s interruption due to the pandemic, a tribute to Renaissance Venetian painters and the figure of the Virgin holding the Child returns, consistent with the last edition. The previous “illustrious guest,” displayed at the skyscraper in late 2019-early 2020, had in fact been Giovanni Bellini’s Madonna di Alzano, on loan from the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo.

With this appointment The Illustrious Guest, produced by the Bank’s Culture Project, has reached its thirteenth edition. The exhibition catalog is published by Edizioni Gallerie d’Italia | Skira with texts by Neville Rowley, Cécile Maisonneuve and Giorgio Fossaluzza. Free admission with reservations required at gruppo.intesasanpaolo.com from Dec. 15.
