The week of Sept. 18-24, 2025, promises to be packed with events for art enthusiasts and collectors, with a calendar ranging from modern and contemporary art to jewelry, from design to antique furniture.
In our country, the activity focuses on several timed sales, an increasingly popular mode that allows people to participate conveniently online. Rome’s historic Babuino Auction House offers its Generalist Auction, which, extending from September 15 to 30, covers the entire period of interest. Within its catalog one can find a wide selection of antique art, works from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as silverware and jewelry.
In Genoa, Cambi Auction House is planning to close two major online sales. Until September 22, it will be possible to bid on the Antique Paintings auction, a must-see for lovers of classical paintings. On the following day, September 23, the auction dedicated to Ancient and 19th-century Sculpture will close instead. For those fascinated by the art of glassmaking, Cambi is also offering 300 Murano Glasses under 300 euros, an online auction that ends Sept. 24 and offers the opportunity to buy valuable artifacts at affordable prices.
Colasanti Auction House, based in Rome, is also targeting the web with a thematic sale. Through Sept. 23, the spotlight will be on Jewelry and Bijoux Web Only, an auction featuring a fine selection of valuables for all tastes and pockets.
Across the border, the calendar is just as busy and prestigious. It starts on September 18 with Piasa in Paris, which presents the Art + Design auction, a selection of works from a private Parisian collection. On the same day, in Vienna, Dorotheum is organizing no less than three very interesting sales, Modern and Contemporary Art, Modern Austrian Art, and Contemporary and Modern Austrian Art, offering a comprehensive overview of the Austrian and international art scene. Bonhams, at its Los Angeles location, also opens the day with the Made in California: Contemporary Art auction, while several timed sales, including Designer Handbags & Fashion and Watches Online, conclude online.
On Sept. 18 and 19, Christie’s in New York devotes two days to Asian art with the Important Chinese Furniture and Works of Art auction, a flagship event for collectors in the field. On Sept. 19, the focus shifts back to Paris with Drouot, which presents Collection Gerard BERNER - A life with STEINLEN, a monographic auction devoted to the Swiss artist. In Vienna, Dorotheum continues its enchantments with A Viennese Collection, another fascinating private collection. The week continues with online and in-theater appointments. Piguet, in Geneva, closes its Numismatique, Vins auction on Sept. 22, while in Paris Tajan beats LES FRANCS-TIREURS DE L’ART. On Sept. 23 it will be the turn of Design at Dorotheum in Vienna and Jewelry at Tajan in Paris.
The week concludes on Sept. 24 with several major events. Piasa in Paris is dedicating an auction to the Art Brut & Cie. Antoine de Galbert Collection. Finally, in Vienna, Dorotheum closes the calendar with the glittering Diamonds Only auction, and Tajan in Paris with a sale devoted to 20th CENTURY DECORATIVE ARTS & DESIGN. For contemporary art lovers, Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr’s online auction, Post War and Contemporary Art, will remain open until September 25.
