Accademia Gallery and University of Florence launch new digital storytelling initiative

The Florence Academy Gallery and the Department of History, Archaeology, Geography, Art and Performing Arts (SAGAS) of the University of Florence are launching Subjectives of Art, a new digital storytelling initiative.

The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze and the Department of History, Archaeology, Geography, Art and Performing Arts (SAGAS) of theUniversity of Florence are renewing the collaboration started with the Framework Agreement between the two institutions and, after the In punta di pennello project of 2023, are launching Soggettive d’arte, a new digital storytelling initiative.

The project proposes a novel narrative of the museum, understood as a set of stories to be told through the personal gaze of each author. The works become the starting point for short stories, crafted in different styles-from memoir to “talking work”-capable of touching on universal themes and engaging visitors.

The challenge was to combine high art-historical education with new communication languages to reach a wider audience. The initiative was made possible thanks to the students of the Museum Education and Didactics course taught by Chiara Lachi who, under her scientific direction and that of Elvira Altiero, Art Historian Officer of the Accademia Gallery, created short narrative videos dedicated to selected works of the museum-paintings, sculptures and musical instruments-published on the Florentine institution’s YouTube channel in a dedicated playlist. Each video represents a personal and unique narrative, built with different multimedia tools: audio, text, images, video, sound, and animations, including those created with artificial intelligence. The goal is to offer an authentic and subjective view of cultural heritage, capable of establishing an emotional connection with the viewer.

For the students, the experience was a first concrete approach to museum communication; for the museum, a new way of making the collections accessible through short stories, memories and suggestions.
