The diffuse museum project "Paesaggi Plurali," promoted by the City of Fiesole, is born: forty places in Fiesole, selected for their historical, artistic, landscape and cultural significance, have been networked into four thematic routes already available to the public. The project aims to propose a narrative of the city as one big system. The official presentation of the initiative was held on Tuesday, May 13, at the headquarters of the Michelucci Foundation, in the presence of Mayor Cristina Scaletti, architect Giulia Fiorentini, the project’s coordinator, and Chiara Chiari of Avventura Urbana, who oversaw the visual identity of the initiative.
“An ambitious and innovative project,” said the mayor, “but above all deeply rooted in our identity. Forty places, four routes that tell Fiesole as one big system, a landscape of landscapes, a precious mosaic in which each tile is essential to understand the whole. A project that fits perfectly in the context of our candidacy as Italian Capital of Culture 2028 and demonstrates that Fiesole is not only to be lived, but also to be shared, to be told and to be cherished together.”
The project, launched in 2023, initially included a first phase of mapping and analysis of the territory, thanks to the collaboration with the Primo Conti Foundation and the Michelucci Foundation. Subsequently, innovative communication tools-digital and visual-were developed and four itineraries were organized, designed to offer different and complementary readings of the territory: “Looking,” “Thinking,” “Harmony,” and “Origin.”
“Sguardo” is an itinerary dedicated to the contemplation of views that have fascinated visitors and artists for centuries. It includes ten places on the Arno Valley and on the opposite side of the Mugnone River, including the Belvedere of Via Beato Angelico, the Dome of the Via Vecchia Fiesolana, the Queen’s Bench, the panorama from the Convent of San Francesco, the Cento Scale, San Romolo the place of martyrdom, the Park of Remembrance, the monument to Bruno Cicognani, the Bargellino widening, and the Oratory of the Santissimo Crocifisso di Fontelucente.
“Thought” explores symbolic places of culture and knowledge, recognized both locally and internationally as centers of research and culture in the contemporary age. The eleven places include the Pietro Porcinai Archives, the Giovanni Michelucci Foundation, the Primo Conti Museum and Foundation, the Espresso Coffee Academy, the Villa delle Balze, the Bandini Museum, the Bishop’s Seminary, Villa la Torraccia, the Church and Convent of San Domenico, the Badia Fiesolana, and the Church of Santa Maria Primerana, among others.
“Origine” leads to the Etruscan roots of Fiesole, reconstructing its history and identity through ten stages: the Civic Archaeological Museum, the archaeological area with the Roman Theater, Villa Medici, the Bargellino Tomb, the Praetorian Palace, the Cathedral of St. Romulus, the Garibaldi area, the Convent of St. Francis, the Etruscan walls and the Underground Spring.
“Harmony” is the route where nature and culture come together. Nine stops have been selected, including the Ontigano waterfall, Villa Peyron, the Florence War Cemetery, the Cipressa monumental tree, the Church of San Jacopo al Girone, the Ghirlandaio Tabernacle, the Maiano Farm, the Church of San Giuseppe Artigiano and the Villa di Maiano.
Those who wish to discover and access the itineraries can consult the website fiesoleforyou.it, accessing the section dedicated to the diffuse museum, or can contact the tourist office at Via Portigiani 3, where printed materials are also available. Each stage of the project is marked with information panels equipped with Qr Codes, which allow direct access to digital content. In addition, four information totems serve as infopoints, placed in Piazza Mino in Fiesole, in Via Faentina all’Olmo, in front of the Church of San Domenico and, soon, also in Piazza Mazzini in Compiobbi.
The “Plural Landscapes” project was carried out in collaboration with the owners of the places involved and with the support of associations such as Amici dei Musei, Amici dell’Archivio and Pro Loco Valle dell’Arno.
